About the role:

As Financial Controller, you’ll report to a new and forward-looking Chief Financial Officer and lead the finance team in ensuring the financial stability and strategic planning of Wellington Electricity. This role is key in managing the end-to-end financial operations of the organisation, including financial and management accounting, external and internal reporting, budgeting, treasury compliance, and regulatory adherence.
Key responsibilities include:
- Preparing and delivering management accounts, statutory accounts and tax accounts.
- Leading financial planning processes, including annual budgets, forecasts, and five-year business plans.
- Overseeing financial compliance, audits, and reporting to shareholders, banks, and regulators.
- Driving high-quality financial analysis for strategic decision-making, including capital investments.
- Leading, mentoring, and developing a high-performing finance team.
- Contributing to organisational growth by optimising financial systems and processes.

About you:
The ideal candidate would be a dynamic and experienced Financial Controller who thrives in complexity and excels at managing multiple priorities. You would bring a hands-on approach, ready to dive into the details while keeping a strategic perspective. Collaboration is at your core, and you will love to work across teams and position finance as a key service function.
You could currently be in a professional services environment in a senior role but are looking to sharpen your experience and skills by working within the industry. Equally, you could currently be a Financial Controller in a commercial or Crown organisation, looking to broaden your leadership experience in a business which is part of an international infrastructure group.
You will also bring:
- 5-10 years in commercial or chartered Financial Controller roles, ideally within regulated industries or utilities, but not essential.
- Chartered Accountant (CA ANZ) and a relevant tertiary qualification in accounting or business.
- Expertise in financial and management accounting, compliance, and reporting; SAP and regulatory experience are a plus.
- A collaborative approach to team management with a focus on engagement and performance.
- Comfort with complex, evolving systems and an ability to implement process improvements.
